It depends on what kind of dental field you are in. Just regular dentistry, the assistant has numerous things that they have to do. Setting up the room, getting the patient, assisting the dentist, knowing what the dentist will need and use for each different task, ordering supplies, x rays.

Dental Nurses assist the dentist with any dental procedure. Preparing the patient for an oral operation or finishing the job after the Dentist has done the hard part. They can take x-rays, or glue on crowns.

A dental assistant helps the dentist with routine cleanings, fillings and x-rays. A dental hygenist helps teach people proper oral hygiene and takes care of any complicated hygiene issues that arrise. There is no such thing as a "dental nurse" but these are the two types of jobs that you could be referring to.
