Typically, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the cheapest days to fly with any commercial airline. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday flights are booked up with weekend travelers. Monday is considered the heaviest day of business travelers. You will find the cheapest flights if you are willing to fly at off-peak times or "red-eye" flights.

As a general rule, usually weekdays are less expensive than the weekends. However, timing is even more important in bringing down the price. The earlier in the morning you fly, the cheaper your ticket will be. For example, if you fly somewhere at 5:30am on a Tuesday, your ticket will be much cheaper than 2:00pm on a Saturday.

Typically, traveling on a Wednesday is the most economical day for air travel. Of course there are exceptions to that rule. After that, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays generally follow suit with airfares just a bit higher. The days you want to stay away from are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is best to fly on either a Tuesday or Thursday, since those are the less traveled days major airlines such as Southwest offer discounted fares. Be sure to book two weeks in advance to ensure the cheapest fare.
