What could cause wet carpet on the passenger side of my Dakota if the windows were left up?

If the smell is water like, it could be rain water seeping in through the firewall or seals in the door.

That is either a leaky cowl or a leaking heater core. Look around the firewall and cowl to make sure the seals are good and check your coolant level.

You have a leak from under the dashboard that is probably dropping condensation off of the ac valve. Another possibility is that your car is leaking coolant inside.

There could be some sort or leakage problem with your cooling system. This would allow the leakage to got directly to your carpet.
