What could cause surges in a Chevrolet 3.4 engine?

I am not driving any differently and have not noticed anything else going on with my car.

Could possibly be a fuel pressure regulator. If you take it to an autoparts store they can run a diagnostic and tell you what code is showing up.

It could be caused by the fuel pump going on the car. Make sure you have fuel in the rail of the 3.4 motor when it is started.

Could be a result of a vacumm leak, which cause the idle to surge. Check for vacuum leak by using soap water, and spraying it on lines, look for bubbles.

The first thing to do is check for codes. This should help you identify or at least get a good idea of what it could be. Without knowing more about the car all I can say is look online for people with the same problem and see what helped them.
