What could cause my 3.8L Mustang not to start, I think it has something to do with the fuel pump?

There a two reasons a car will not start. One is lack of spark at the plugs and the other is a lack of fuel. Test for spark first. If this is not the problem, move on to the fuel system and start by changing the fuel filter; then on to more costly issues like the fuel pump.

There are several reasons that could cause this problem. Do you hear noise from your fuel pump? it could be a super clogged fuel filter or your fuel pump could be out. The ground wire on the fuel pump could have come short. Those are all verrry common things.

The quick test would be to check the fuel pump fuse and relay. May try spraying carburetor cleaner in the throttle and if it start's and die's,would indicate fuel problem. You can also try tapping on the bottom of the fuel tank(firmly) ,if starts now pump was locked and needs replaced.

You can have you fuel pressure tested. This test will test your fuel pump, filterand your pressure regulator. Car must have enough motor oil too.
