What could cause a VW Beetle oil light to blink when you get above 2000 rpm?

I have noticed that my rpm gets over 2000 that my oil light starts to blink, as long as I stay below the 2000 mark my light does not come on.

This problem is most likely caused by low oil levels or a failing oil pump. Your oil light will signal when it detects that the engine is not circulating enough oil to keep friction at optimal levels. There is also a chance part of the problem could be a severely dirty internal engine area that is restricting the oil flow.

Well that sounds like you have and engine problem. If the oil light is staying on then you either have low oil pressure or the oil level is too low. If it just flashes and doesn't stay on you oil pump may be malfunction as the rpm's increase.

I would try checking the oil first. If it is good then maybe the added strain on the engine at 2000 rpm is causing the light to come on.

Well either you have a electrical short or your oil compression is low. So both problems need to be inspeced before more problems exist and cost you more out of pocket.
