What could cause a rough idle, bucking, and heavy fuel consumption of an older Toyota pickup?

The first place to look is the MAP sensor. Its connected to the air intake hose on the top right of the engine.

If i were you id start with fuel filter carburrater cleaning. then start checking vacumm lines if no leaks are found there move to checking any and all enigne control systems electrical conectors. then check the intake manifold for leaks , and just keep moving along till u find the problem.

First, a common problem is the ignition circuit, which tends to be rusty and / or greasy on these vehicles. Secondly, I have often heard about varying quality with gas. Be careful to buy it at high-cost stations, not the cheap ones. This will help in the long run, from my experience.

Wow! you re into engine top overhaul. Also, fuel pump cleaning. Start digging your pocket for top overhaul and fuel pump kits. Dont forget the timing belts too!

First step is check all parts of engine including fuel box and then engine box some times any problem can be occure car do not move.

You could obtain a Toyota scan tool. Employ this while the car is running, and make sure you catch it in the act so you can record the malfunctions. Then you can ask a garage for further advice.

I would start with the spark plugs and coils/spark plug wires. If any of these are bad, they would cause the engine to run rough.
