What could be wrong with my noisy air conditioner when the noise seems to be coming from the air handler?

It probably is the air handler. It could have a loose bolt or the fan could be the loose making noises.

The blower is generally the culprit. Could be bearings, belts, or an unbalanced wheel. I have also seen filters stuck in th blower housing, toys, animals, paper, and other items. The mounting could also have worked loose from vibration. Another source is loose duct work or poorly sealed duct work.
