Sometimes gold does tarnish. A green type of dirt like brass turns green. You may be allergic to the gold also. It may not be real gold.

Are you sure they are real gold? Have you had a jewler look at them? There are some people who have a lot of acidity in thier bodies and sometimes that acidity interacts with metals and turns them a different color. Is is only these earrings that turn on you or other pieces also?

Lower karat gold such as 10K and 14K are an alloy of gold and other metals. 24K is pure gold, the others are mixed with metals such as copper and nickel. If your earrings are yellow gold it would be the copper causing the discoloration.

This is called oxidization and happens frequently. Sometimes it is caused by chemicals getting onto the gold, like makeup or perfume. A jeweler should be able to professionally clean them.

It is very unusual for gold to become discolored. Sometimes it will fade a bit but not change color. Perhaps a professional cleaning would help the discoloration of the pieces.

There are several reason attached to it such as chemicals reaction, less pure gold and so on. Just take it to the jewelers to know the actual cause - because difference people gives you different point of view which they might have comes across about their own gold jewelry.
