this usually means you have a leak in your roof and the water is finding its way down pipes or studs until it gets to a point to be noticed. if there is a second floor between the roof and the wall it could be something leaking like a dishwasher, sink

This is most likely a problem with your roof, or with a vent in your roof. Take a look at any bathroom, chimney, or stove vents on the roof near that wall and make sure no water is leaking through there. Otherwise you're probably looking at a hole somewhere in the roof near that wall.

Dollars to doughnuts, you've got a leaking roof. Next time it rains, go up into your attic with a flashlight. Look at the area above the spot that leaks. You will probably see where the water is coming in. If you're lucky, you can patch the roof and replace the damaged drywall. If not, well, be prepared to spend money.

Your roof is leaking some where. The water could be running down a rafter and or a ceiling beam before running down the wall.

You probably have a leak in your roof that is following a rafter on down to the area where it is coming out of your wall.

Somewhere your roof is leaking and that is causing the water to run down the wall and into your house. You should call a roofer to come out and see what the problem is.
