What could be the cause of a bump on my tongue near the back of my mouth?

I have developed a painful bump in the back of my mouth.

The painful bump could be an injured tasted bud. It could also be a form of oral cancer. You should see your dentist as soon as possible so he can rule this out.

This sounds exactly like a canker sore. These are painful bumps that develop on the tongue and in and around the mouth. These bumps are usually a result of excessive stress, and they can hurt very badly. I recommend purchasing Orajel to numb the pain and help them go away.
