Your mini schnauzer may have gotten into something he is allergic to, or poison oak/ivy/sumac. He may also get what are called hot spots which are irritation on the skin from being wet or due to allergies. He could also be scratching at fleas or mites. You may want to switch shampoos

Scabbing on a dog may be caused by skin allergy or insect bite. There are many over-the counter treatments for insect bites. If an insect bite, hole be about the size of a pin holewhen cleaned. You can give a dog benadryl for temporary relief of itching and allergies.

Allergic dermatitis can be diagnosed by a veterinarian, but check for obvious culprits first. Flea, tick, or mosquito bites are irritating and cause the dog to scratch. This breaks the skin, causing it to scab as it heals. Schnauzers are very active dogs, and may get minor abrasions from charging through bushes in the yard.

I have mini schnauzers also that are brothers. They have scabs on their back. I found "schnauzer bumps" on the internet that are exclusive to that breed.
