What could be causing a short in the outlet for my freezer?

My freezer outlet has a short in it.

First check the source outlet. It should be secure with not dust inside or on the plug itself. This should be a dedicated, grounded outlet without other power support.

There could be a couple of causes. The outlet could be broken, this will cause it to short out and trip the circuit breaker. Another cause could be the freezer is pulling too much current through the plug (due to some malfunction within the frezer), this will also trip the circuit breaker.

Try plugging the freezer into another outlet. If it does not short, then you know it is not your freezer. If an outlet is shorting, it has internal damage and should be replaced. It could be a loose connection that is causing your problem as well.
