In most cases, tooth decay is caused by plaque build-up. Plaque build-up leads to bacteria growth along the gum and tooth-line. That bacteria can break down tooth enamel and eat away at the tooth itself, causing cavities and decay.

The main causes of tooth decay are improper cleaning techniques and diet. A diet rich is sugar is a main cause of tooth decay. Be cautious also of "baby bottle decay" which stems from children being given a bottle and the milk allowed to pool inside the mouth.

Not taking care of your teeth. Not getting them cleaned at least once a year. Your could have a gum desease, eat too much sugar, to many acidy foods. See your dentist.
