It may be folliculitis (infection of a hair follicle), or a sebaceous cyst (harmless, slow-growing bumps under the skin, that usually contain dead skin and other skin particles). It may be due to hormones (puberty) or trauma (a scratch on skin of the scalp which may later get infected).

The most common cyst on the head would be a sebaceous cyst. At the root of every hair there is a gland called a sebaceous gland which produces a lubricating oily material. This gland is flask shaped and sometimes there is a blockage in the neck of this gland resulting in the build up of material leading to a cyst.

A cyst on your head could in fact be caused by an in grown hair or a hair follicle becoming infected or inflamed due to foreign bodies. A cyst inside on your brain could be caused by many things, brain bleeds, trauma to the head or heredity.

Most cysts and fibroids are benign and will go away on their own. Anyone can get them anytime. Some people are just more prone to getting them through genetics. If the cyst becomes very painful or continues to grow or you develop other symptoms such as a fever seek medical attention.

Some people are prone to having more cysts than others. Sometimes it can be your bodily system is run down and lacking in vitamins. If your diet is poor(not eating enough fruit and vegetables). Some people in their teens get more cysts than others.
