Children's teeth chip when children grind them. This is an involuntary action while the child sleeps. The constant pressure puts strain on the tooth edges and can cause them to sheer off. Wearing a mouth guard can protect against chipping. Other actions, such as cracking nuts with teeth, or using teeth to open jars can have a similar effect.

Chipping teeth in children can be quite common. Kids are at an age where they like to stick things in their mouth even if its not food. For example, pen caps, pencils, paperclips etc and this can be very harmful to teeth. Even chewing on ice can chip teeth in kids.
