Start out by getting a random orbit buffer. The best thing to do is to start out with a good wash and clay, then use a polish (Meguiars number 7 works well), take it easy till you get the hang of it. After buffing with this polish, put two coats of Meguiars number 26 on for a show car shine.

I would recomend using an oscillating buffer. These wor great but be carfull the can strip you're paint right off. Read all of the directions, and warnings for the tool.

Buffing makes a car looks good, it done by the aid of very fine grit polishing compound to bring the shine back.
