The cat will need the abscess drained of any pus and it will need to be cleaned out. Since abscesses are usually some kind of infection, it is also generally necessary for the cat to be on antibiotics. The cat should go to a vet to get the antibiotics prescribed and to get the abscess checked.

You really need to see the vet to have it lanced, and the vet will probably prescribe antibiotics. You can try hot compresses, though it will be hard to get her to keep still, I used this on an abscessed paw successfully. However, you don't know what is causing the abscess, and this could be very dangerous to your pet.

This condition needs a few things to hasten the process of healing. First, it needs to be put on an antibiotic recommended by your vet. Secondly, it is important that you apply a very warm damp compress several times a day to the area to "draw" the fluid out.

You need to take the cat to the vet, the vet is the person who would know that answer. The vet could give the cat the meds it needs to help it out. It may need to have the abscess drained. Or it could be worse, you need have it checked out though.

It is always best to go see a vet, but you can clean the abscess and then slice it open with a razor blade to drain it.

Best thing to do is to take the pet to the nearest animal or pet vet to have her checked out and see what treatments can be given to the animal.
