Many dogs do not receive pain meds for this procedure apart from a post-op shot. If you think she is still in pain, take her back to the vet who may prescribe something like rimadyl, tramdol, metacam, or NSAIDs (all of which carry risks and can be overprescribed).

One remedy for the pain is to give the dog small dose aspirin. The low dose will not harm the dog and will help ease the pain. To get the dog to eat the pill, wrap it in a slice of American cheese.

You have to be very careful NOT to give a canine any human medicine (ie aspirin or ibuprofen). Most likely the vet who performed the spay should send you home with a pain reliever - most likely ketoprofen.

There are many pain medications available for canine pain. The most commonly used are Rimadyl, Tramadol and Buprenorphine. Ask your vet which pain medication is the best for your dog.
