What can I do with dried porcini mushrooms?

My friend brought some for me back from a trip.

You hydrate them, by letting them soak in a bowl of water. Once they've returned to their natural state, pat them dry on a paper towel, then use them as you would any other mushroom in recipies.

The first thing to do is determine how much you want to use for a recipe, then reconstitute that portion of the porcini mushrooms. To reconstitute, you submerge the mushrooms in warm water until they plump up. At that point, discard water, chop mushrooms and follow your recipe.

Soak them in some water to rehydrate them. Keep the water to cook with; it's full of flavor. Porcinis are good in creamy soups and pasta sauces, or casseroles.

First your mushrooms need to be reconstituted. Pour boiling water over them; let them sit a half hour. Then you can use them in pasta sauce or soup.
