Trim it back after it has finished flowering and give it a shot of Miracle-Gro or a similar product. It can be done annually, but it is not needed.

Phlox will need full sunlight and good drainage, in a dense soil. If the plants are stringy than there is not enough light. Phlox will need to be thinned from time to time to promote new growth. Before winter phlox should be cut away and new growth will appear in the spring.

Your phlox plants need lots of direct sun. Also, clip off flower heads once they begin to fade. Use a chemical treatment if you have a bug problem.

To solve the problem place the phlox in the full sun light to avoid the fungal problems and mildew problems.
