First, do not make a big deal of coming or going. If you make coming or going an exciting, emotional event, your dog will become more anxious. Also, try Rescue Remedy. A few drops in your dog's water will have a noticeable calming effect within a few days/weeks.

One way to treat separation anxiety is to leave the house and come back several times for short periods. Your dog will start to realize that you will not be gone for hours every time you leave. Do this consistently several times a day.

Try leaving it alone for a couple of mintes and then praising it when you return. Over time, lengthen the amount of time you are out of sight. Crate train so the dog has a safe place to be when you're gone, maybe with it's favorite safe toy.
