What can I do about a hair in the throat?

It's making me crazy, but I can't swallow it and I can't cough it back up!

If I were you, I'd eat a bunch of scratchy foods like corn chips, popcorn, crusty bread, basically all the stuff you don't want to eat when you have a sore throat. That stuff is bound to clear the hair into your digestive system to take care of.

I find this solution works well in situations like this: eat a piece of bread. The soft, spongy quality of the bread, especially after chewing, will "capture" the errant hair and drag it down the esophagus with it! You can follow the piece of bread with a liquid just to make sure the mission is accomplished. Hope this helps!

The easiest way to get rid of a hair in your throat is to make it go down, not up. Try drinking seltzer or another carbonated beverage. If this doesn't do the trick, try eating something dry. A dry piece of toast or english muffin might do the trick.

It may help to breath in vapor (vaporizor machine). This may ultimately encourage increased mucus production or release from epithelial cells. This would serve to allow the hair to be collected by mucus and then expelled out of the throat. Most likely you would then be able to cough it up as part of a collection of mucus.

Eating or drinking may dislodge it, or your throat may just be "tickly" from a cold. Some colds cause that sensation. If you can see it, and your gag reflex permits, you might be able to reach back and pull it out, but do this over a basin just in case. If it continues to bother you, go to doctor.
