If you have a clean break then you can expect to be in a cast for six to nine weeks at which point you may need surgery and or physical therapy to help heal your leg.

As fibula is a bone which does not bear any bodyweight, no major surgical intervention is require to fix it. Proper possitioning and applying cast to immobilise is sufficient enough.

Even if it is clean, surgery may be needed. Beyond that, you'll probably spend a good 6-8 weeks (maybe more) in a cast.

Fibula is a bone situated lateral to tibia. If fibula is fractured, no treatment is necessary because this bone does not have any function and it does not do any weight bearing. A person can stand, walk or even run if his fibula is totally removed. In case of fractured fibula, healing occurs within 8-10 weeks. No treatment required.

The fibula does have a specific purpose. It helps the ankle articulate when running, climbing, swimming, walking on uneven surfaces, and stabilizes the upright human standing position.
