Immediate treatment for a torn tendon in the hand includes applying ice and compressing the injured area of the hand. Secondly, a splint may help stabilize the hand while transporting to the emergency room. Once at the hospital, a surgeon will sew the tendon back to the bone or muscle.

When dealing with a torn tendon you obviously want to seek immediate medical attention. Afterwards, be sure to perform some sort of graduating rehab in order to promote proper healing and regain strength.

Tendons cannot heal unless the ends are touching, therefore surgery will most likely be required. It's usually best to have the surgery as close to the original date of injury as possible. It can take up to two months until the repaired tendon is strong enough to use without protection.

There are 2 options. Depending upon how severe the tear is and the location. Most tears will heal themselves over the course of 6-8 weeks.
