The symptoms of mange are itching but hair loss can occur and crusty sores may develop. It may cause the skin to look red and scaly or small spots very like chicken pox may occur. This is a contagious condition to humans so must be diagnosed and treated by a vet.

It usually is charactarized by loss of fur in many areas of the body. Also the skin left underneath is inflammed and itchy and often looks red. The skin being itchy is usually the first tip off also many pets will stop eating because they feel sickly due to the skin infection.

Mange can start off looking like dandruff. As it progresses the cat will scratch more and loose fur. Fleas can cause the same symptoms. Check for fleas or flea feces that look like little brown specs on cat. If you don't find fleas it's probably mange.

It may start out small, but becomes painfully obvious- hair loss, scaly skin, scabbing, it gets very ugly and you CAN NOT treat it. MUST be treated by a vet.

Symptoms of mange in cats include excessive scratching, dry flaky skin, and hair loss. Mange usually begins around the ears and face and will progress to the feet and lower abdomen. As the disease progresses, the skin will become very dry and flaky with a yellowish crust as the cat continues to scratch.
