Under 18 Pa. C. S. § 908 swords are considered offensive weapons, which is a misdemeanor to possess, sell, or make. That same section, however, provides a defense/exception for items held as a "a curio or in a dramatic performance. " So keeping a sword for Renaissance fairs or just to display is permissible.

Broken down, you cannot purchase or carry a sword unless it is for collecting or dramatic purposes - to carry a knife, dagger, or any other "cutting instrument" of the sort designed for inflicting injury carries a misdemeanor.
