A torn uterus usually occurs during a difficult labor and could happen at the site of a scar (due to a previous C-section). Unfortunately the baby can die but immediate surgery needs to be done to remove the uterus. Blood transfusions and ICU admission is also needed.

This is an emergency and the doctor has only minutes to decide what needs to be done. Usually they prefer to remove the uterus by surgery as this is safer. However this means the woman can have no more children!

Everything goes berserk when something like that happens! I know someone who lost a baby, but she was lucky at least she survived. The docs and nurses rushed so much when it happened!  add a comment

It depends on whether the lady wants to have more children or not. If she does, then the doc will try to suture up the uterus and not remove it. If not, or if the uterus is badly torn, then the only option is to surgically remove the uterus.

Abdominal surgery is always performed, in the form of a c-section. After the baby is removed a hysterectomy is usually performed,as bleeding from a torn uterus is very hard to control and it is likely that the scar will rupture again with another pregnancy. Blood transfusions and antibiotics are also given.
