Printed menus usually give a listing of the menu item and are used in quality establishments. Menu boards are usually handwritten and offer no description of food. They are also used in small restaurants. Spoken menus are very descriptive and make food selection more appealing and are used in fine dining.

A printed menu frequently has the cooking method and ingredients used for the specific entree, whereas a menu board lists only the entree and the price. A spoken menu will frequently include subjective opinions regarding the dish/entree!
