Schools are categorized Division I, II or III based on student population and the number and type of athletic programs offered. A school can be Division I in one sport and Division II in another. The NCAA site can help you determine which schools and which programs are Division I.

Division one schools are the schools that have the highest level of athletic competition, at least according to the NCAA. They also tend to give away more scholarships, have larger budgets, and better facilities. To qualify as division one, the school must have athletes in at least seven different sports.
