The primary goal of impressionist work is to explore movement through the manipulation of light, space, and the perception of the visual. Impressionist painters tried to images through rough brushstrokes of color and light. Up close the paintings seem blurry, but further away, they coalesce into a solid form. The subject matter of Impressionism is city life, landscapes, and sometimes portraits.
