Usually what you see on a roof is algae not mildew. Any of the major name brand shingle manufacturers (GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, Etc) have multiple AR (algae resistant) offerings. The important thing to remember is that the AR coating is not permanent and will not last for the life of the shingle regardless of manufacturer.

Asphalt shingles with built-in Scotchgard are your best bet. They cost a little more, but will pay forthemselves in no time.

As I research this I find that I get companies pushing their product, and I don't feel good passing their hype to you- however, the go-to guys have 2 solid recommendations- bar none, you want architectural shingles. Your other options are the many new options in metal and vinyl roofing.

The good news is that brass shingles are the most mildew resistant in the world. The bad news is that they are so heavy that most roofers wont install them. One outfit, Brass Monkeys Inc. has trained gorillas as helpers. You may want to give them a call.

Anymore most of your name brands will have a mildew resistant coating on them. Your best bet is to go to your local home improvement warehouse and speak to an associate.

They do not make a shingle that is mildew proof. They all have the same chemical makeup. You can do a net search for more information.
