Well I think you should try those Isokinetic squeeze balls. They come in various degrees of resistance so you would be able to build up as your hand strength increases. They are SO great for stress too. I take them to work and will work with them there discreetly.

Go to a pet store and you can buy a bunch of flexible small balls for half the cost! They work great too and have different types as far as soft or hardness goes. I've also gotten foam balls at a craft store. A cost saving suggestion for ya!  add a comment

I personally like the Thera-Band flexible hand bars. They are very inexpensive and help with strengthening and reducing pain from arthritis. It will build up your endurance and flexibility too. Most sports supply stores will carry them or you could check online or a medical supply store for them.

with hand strength balls its not whats the best kind but the ones that provide the best resistance based on your level of physical fitness most people will just start off with a stress ball to increase finger and grip strength, the next step up would be a tennis ball or raquet ball either will do fine

My favorite is the pair of Chinese metal balls that one rotates in the palm of one's hand. It not only strengthens one's fingers and wrists, but it's calming as well!
