Halloween started the 80's horror genre. Friday the 13th was a quick albeit good follow-on and you can't forget Freddy Kruger and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The 1980's decade produced some of the most famous horror movies ever, in particular, the Friday the 13th series and Nightmare on Elm Street (along with many Stephen King movies).

For me, they are John Carpenter's "The Thing", Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining", and any of the Nightmare on Elm street movies. The "Alien" movie series is also excellent.

Definitely the first Nightmare on Elm Street. So scary! Prom Night, the Jason movies and all the Freddie movies are great.
