Potassium is an important vitamin for the body to function. Too much has been associated with hypertension and strokes and too little has been associated with heart disease in animals.

There are certainly no benefits from a high levels of potassium in diet, only a potassium is excreted at high levels because of diuretica or excessive sweating during exercise. To much potassium in blood can result in cardiac arrest and a potassium solution is used in execution by lethal injection.

You do need potassium in your diet but if you have a heart problem then the doctor should regulate how much you take. I good thing to remember is that 1/2 banana is a serving not the whole banana.
