Stem cells hold remarkable healing and regenerative powers. In theory, they can help people to re-grow damaged tissues within their own body. This is especially important for degenerative diseases or anything involving the brain or any nerves, since these systems will not heal on their own. Many people suffer from diseases for which stem cell research holds a likely cure.

Organs could be grown in a lab, which would help with transplants. Stem cell research could also help to reduce birth defects in children.
