Mint and basil are both known to repel flies. Additionally these can be used for cooking. You will have less flies and a supply of fresh herbs to top it off.

These include Rosemary, Catnip, Tea Tree, Lavender, Pennyroyal, Rue, Marigolds, Peppermint, Garlic, Eucalyptus, Basil, Tansy, and Artemesia. Citrus peelings repel flies, also, as does pine. Read instructions as some have ingredients that might be harmful to pets and humans. Arrange your plants near doorways, windows, and outside areas that you want insect free.

Plants that repel flies are usually ones with a strong scent. Many herbs that are easy to grow will fit the bill. Some examples are garlic, basil, rosemary, mint and lavender. Marigolds also have a strong odor and will work. All these plants can be grown either indoors or outdoors and in containers, which makes them very verstile.

Some plants that repel flies are Citronella grass, Catnip, Rosemary, Marigolds, Peppermint, Garlic, Eucalyptus, Tea tree, Basil, Lavendar, Artemisia, Pennyroyal, Rue and Tansy. Citronella grass is a safe bet as it's used citronella in candles to repel insects, and the smell of Marigolds is as offensive to insects as us.

The most common fly-repellent plants are Rosemary, Basil, Catnip, Garlic, Citronella grass, and Lavendar. These must be planted without overcrowding or they will not flourish. You can find most of these at your local grocery or flower shop.

Grow mint and put it in your windows in a vase with some water or grow mint in window boxes. Flies do not like mint. Another herb they do not like is basil if you sprinkle some in a dish and put it in the windows this helps repel flies.

A basil plant is well known to repel flies and also smells very good. Flies are also repelled by mint plants and sometimes tansy plants. If flies are a problem indoors you could place some of these plants on your windowsills.

Well, all indoor plants repel flies but if you want to keep them away just use corn syrup and sugar and spray onto your plant.

I have mint planted by my front door and last year it was swarming with flies. So I have to disagree with that suggestion. Sorry.
