German and Spanish are very different languages. German is a Germanic language while Spanish is a romance language. There are few cognates in the languages, however they have similar tenses.

Both are European languages, using the same alphabet. Both differentiate between "male" and "female" nouns via the article (in English, "the"). There are words common to both languages, especially because of technology. They are different because German is a Germanic language, related to Dutch and Anglo Saxon (the forerunner to English) while Spanish is a Romance language related to Latin.
