What are some microwave popcorn cooking tips?

First off, follow the bag directions, but remember that the timing varies greatly between microwaves. Start the microwave timer at about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes to start with, and see how the popping is going. You'll probably need to add another half minute to minute. Listen VERY closely for when the popping slows down.

Do not necessarily trust the cooking time on the package, because all microwaves are different. Put a large bag of popcorn in at regular temperature for 3 minutes and keep an eye on it until popping slows to every 1-2 seconds. Experiment with times until you get it right. If the popcorn burns, try setting the power at 80%.

A good idea so the popcorn does not burn or become over done is to stop the microwave once you hear the kernels start to slow down popping. When you start to hear only a few pops per second then it usually means that the popcorn is done or close to done.

It is very important that your knwo your own microwave. It is easy to cook popcorn too long in a microwave. You need to stay by the microwave and listen to the popping. It is tempting to set a time and walk away but you must not do this. Stopping the microwave too short is better than burning it.
