"A Basic History of California" by Don E. Fehrenbacher. "California, A History" by Andrew Rolle. "A History of California: The Spanish Period" by Charles E. Chapman. "California History: A Topical Approach" by Gordon Morris Bakken. "California: Land of New Beginnings" by David Lavender. That's about all I can find. Good Luck.

The novels of John Steinbeck are not only classics of literature, but give a great insight into California history. Of Mice and Men tells of the early California ranchhand experience. Cannery Row examines the effects of fishing and early Monterrey.
