Tapeworm medication for cats and dogs is toxic to the parasites and can kill the animal if the dose is not exact. Over-the-counter worming medications are a waste of money and potentially dangerous. Take your pet to the veterinarian for effective, safe treatment.

The only OTC tapeworm medicine available is for animals - and even that doesn't work nearly as well as prescription meds. If this is for a person, you should just go to the MD and pay for the prescription.

Since tapeworm diseases are found in both animals and human beings. In animals commonly used drug is praziquantle whereas medicine used for human beings is a bit different from this. Since humans are vulnerable to side effects by using only this medicine so along with praziquantle, albendazole is used to avoid side effects in human beings.

Any medicine containing the chemical 'praziquantel' and states that it can be taken for tapeworms is probably adequate to rid yourself of this nasty parasite. The best course of action would be to go to a doctor however.
