Avoid dark colors as they tend to fade quickly and absorb heat. Lighter shades - such as off-white or a biscuit color is always a good way to go.

Check what colors are available on siding at your local home improvement store. The selection in siding typically will show you what exterior colors builders are using in new construction. The selections available will almost always shows what are the updated colors and generally make older homes look as if they are using current trends.

Take into consideration the surroundings of your home - would the colour you choose clash with neighbouring houses? Don't choose something too bright and trendy as you may change your mind a few months down the line! Stick to classics - pale pastels, greys and natural tones usually work well.

There are several exterior colors with a historic background. For instance, in older days there were no chemical colors. Therefor, pigments came from nature. Dark 'Dutch' green is what gives Holland its look. 'Oxblood' Red is seen throughout the whole of Europe. Go for a silk or eggshell finish.
