The best drill to improve hockey footwork would be doing some forward drills. This gets you used to moving on the ice at fast speeds with your feet going side to side. Great conditioning and footwork drill and probably best done with others to improve overall speed of the team.

If you want to improve your hockey footwork I suggest that you do running drills with four cones and you practice running from one to another. also on the ice you can do figure eight drills and also do drills skatting and crossing over around the circles. Also doing sprints off the ice will improve foot speed

Running sideways, putting one foot to the right, then the other foot to the right. It is easier if you can do this on a sideline with grass.

Laps around the ice, skating through pylons, skating backwards at increased speeds, crossovers through pylons first from left to right and then vice versa. If you're looking for something more advanced, try all of these and record your times and try to improve upon them.
