Use your imagination while being respectful at the same time. You can use patriotic paper plates, and cups for the family cookout. For desert have a red, white and blue jello or pudding. Replace the BBQ chefs hat with a Uncle Sam hat. Try making a historical poster that can be placed outdoors or in a window.

Stick small American flags into floral frogs that have been wrapped in silver paper. You can add red, white and blue ribbons or flowers to fill it out. Use as a centerpiece for your table. Wrap poles in wide red, white and blue ribbon. Allow the ends of the ribbons to flow from the top (ie. a May pole).

This past year I was in a store that sold beautiful statues for the graves. They are heavy and supposedly weather-friendly. Solar lighted objects such as angels and Bibles are also very popular.

Red ribbons, crosses, wreaths even plaques with a name and a date are common and unique for Memorial Day Decorations. The American flag is an old standard.
