Read "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells, an outstanding book and the first of its kind. Also "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams is funny and smart

The novel "The Time Machine" by H.G Wells is one among my favorite sci fi novels. It tells about the future of the earth as seen by a 19th century inventor.

Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Anne Mccafferty wrote many classic sci fi novels. Modern writers in that style are Gregory Benford, Tamara Wilhite and Jack Mcdevitt.
