Never underestimate the pawns. Use them as distractions and human shields to more important pieces. Get your attacking pieces out as fast as you can by moving the pawns.

This might sound cliche, but try to read your opponent. Identify why he or she made a certain move a certain way. Do you have an opening? Is there something on your side that's easy for him/her to steal because of it? Best chess advice.
