If by "body as one unit" you mean compound exercises, then nothing is better than basic free-weight movements. Squats and deadlift variations are by far the best as they require the activation of almost all the body's muscles, whether they are used as prime movers or supporting stablizers. Many olympic lifts like clean and jerk are also useful.

Any of the Olympic lifts will work your body as a single unit: Clean, Clean and Jerk, Clean and Press, and the Snatch. These are advanced exercises, but require your entire body to work as one in one or two full body motions. These are focused on power, though. For pure strength, the deadlift is a good exercise as well.
