Finding compatible aquarium fish for a Betta fish takes some care. If your fish is a female it will get along better with other breeds than a male. Some possible tank mates are snails neon tetras, and cory cats. Fish to avoid are guppies, goldfish, angelfish, tiger barbs and guaramis.

Do not add another male beta as they will fight. But you can add most any other community fish because they are peaceful. Do not add fin nipper like tiger barbs.

Bettas, or Siamese Fighting Fish, are aggressive with others of the same species but do okay with peaceful fish like neons and corydoras catfish. Guppies will nip the bettas' fins.

Beta fish are not really good community tank fish. They do better as loners. If your tank is large enough you might try fish of roughly the same size.

Betas will get along with most non-Beta species. Tiger barbs and fish that have a predilection for fin-nipping should be avoided. May not get along with other brightly colored fish.
