A firestorm is created when the heat from a fire and the airflow cause a self-sustaining blaze to rage and cause a lot of destruction.

Firestorms occur when there is a large amount of fuel for the fire to burn, such as in a dry forest. The fire burns fast, and heats a large volume of air, which rises in a wind created by the fire. This causes the fire to spread, which creates more updraft, more fire, and you have a storm of fire.
