What are "family style" restaurants?

The family style restaurants I have been to have been in Lancaster Pa and you sit down at a big table and they bring out big platters of family style foods like Fried Chicken meatloaf and many sides. The menu is already set but there is always something for everyones tastes.

Family style restaurants is your typical 3 star restaurant that is more child friendly and cater for them also. Making it a relaxed family outing, hence family restaurant.
